Beside The Seaside

It's that time of year again when everyone is setting off on their holidays.  Regardless of whether you are jetting off abroad or staying on home turf, one unarguably essential item for your suitcase is a swimsuit.  Vintage swimwear is truly gorgeous but if like me you think that the beautiful cotton costumes are just too nice to wear on a sandy beach there is an alternative.
A couple of years ago you would have struggled to find retro looking swimwear on the high street but thanks to the rising popularity of vintage clothing it has become a lot easier.
The thing I adore most about vintage swimwear is the way that it fits.  High waisted bikinis are amazingly flattering on most figures and incredibly good at hiding those unsightly wobbly bits (I have a few extras since my daughter arrived!).  Simply add pin curls and a flower or two and you can instantly achieve that pin-up look.  Here are just a few examples of some pretty two-piece stunners.

Ok you say, I get where you're coming from, but I'd still like a little less skin on show.  Fear not. It's just as easy to achieve the vintage look at the poolside with a one piece swimsuit.  Ruched or gathered seams were common place on mid-century swimsuits, brilliant news if you are at all conscious of your waist as this gives the illusion of a flatter middle.  An added bonus of buying a high street swimsuit is that many now come with 'tummy control panels' that help keep everything in place.

Which style is your favourite?  Already perfected the pin-up holiday look?  Then why not share some of your snaps?  Drop me a comment below!
