Hello again my vintage lovelies!
This weekend we were at the fabulous Retro Festival at White Waltham Airfield in Maidenhead. This was the first time that my husband and I had attended the festival and most excitingly it is the first ever vintage event that we have taken our daughter to! We were not disappointed! We opted for the Saturday daytime tickets and in hindsight were very pleased as it was a truly glorious day.
The thing that really hit me with this festival was the sheer variety of entertainment on offer. Not only were there three stages and an arena to keep us vintage lovers occupied, but a whole field filled with an array of classic cars, motorcycles, military vehicles, steam engines and airstream trailers, as well as a huge selection of stalls selling all kinds of vintage wares. Being big fans of the forties, we spent a great deal of our time inside the 'Spitfire Pavilion', where DJ Jumpin Jim played his way through many classics tracks on original vinyl. We had a wonderful time watching the jive dancers of JiveRevive, who were even offering foxtrot lessons at intervals throughout the day.
I also discovered that my one year old just adores swing music! I was so proud watching her boogie along to Glenn Miller and I'm pretty certain that a fair few of the other spectators enjoyed her performance too! She was definitely a fan of the bunting that was hung all around the forties tent and repeatedly pointed it out to my husband and myself. I received a few comments for fellow festival goers that she was the only 'vintage baby' that they had seen all day, which was lovely. We were later treated to a fashion show featuring many of the lovely styles available from Miss Bamboo, who were one of many reproduction vintage retailers who had taken up shop onsite. Also at the festival was the lovely Lindsey of Campbell/Crafts with her fully kitted out airstream complete with built in fitting room and vintage interior!
At the main arena we listened to a wonderful performance from My Favourite Things, who sung a selection of retro favourites. The sun continued to shine well into the afternoon and the bright blue skies were the perfect backdrop for the flying displays which were running throughout the day. We had a fantastic time and have plenty of wonderful memories to take away from this weekend. It was amazing to see all of the people who had put so much effort into their vintage outfits and to share in something that everyone enjoyed. We will certainly be returning for Retro Festival 2015, maybe even with a weekend camping ticket!
Now, this is where I need your help. We took loads of photos on Saturday throughout the day, including lots of lovely pictures of my daughter and myself in our full vintage get-up. Unfortunately my darling husband managed to accidentally wipe our camera before we had had a chance to upload the photographs onto our laptop or back them up in any way. The long and short of it is that all of the photos of us as a family and any with me in are gone. This is where you come in. I know that at least one other festival goer has a photograph of our family as a very lovely lady asked if she could take our picture whilst we were sat beside the Spitfire Stage on our picnic blanket. My simple request this week to all of my lovely readers is that you could share this post. Share it with anyone who was at Retro Festival this weekend. Share it with anyone who might KNOW someone who was at Retro Festival too. I'm hoping that I may somehow be able to get at least one photo of us together as a family. Thanks for reading,
